Diving related accidents

Home / Diving related accidents
Updated onJuly 11, 2023

Unfortunately, a reality of diving, like everything else in life, is that it carries an amount of risk, irrespective of whether you are SCUBA or Freediving / Spearfishing. Our islands are not immune to this and for this purpose, this page will have sections diving to media and articles related to several local accidents in the recent past. The aim of this page is not to further victimise the departed, nor to take the place of judges and juries, nor to play experts.

We’d rather not have this page at all, but we also considered that “hiding” these articles could also lead to divers or other individuals in the future to repeat mistakes, not be aware of certain types of risk or become complacent. Hence, when reading these articles don’t approach these with morbid curiosity, but rather with the aim to self-assess our actions prior to, during and after diving and consider whether we may be putting ourselves, or others, at unnecessary risk.

Divinginfo.mt wishes all victims of fatalities to rest in peace and expresses its deepest condolences to their families and friends. For the survivors of such accidents, both directly or indirectly involved, we encourage them to make the best out of their life, seek help if needed at any time for both physical and mental ailments. For Maltese residents, we also recommend using the services of the NGO Richmond Foundation, who may be contacted via Olli.chat, a free online chat service or Helpline 1770 both run by same organisation.
