Local media reports that a British diver aged 66 died after encountering difficulties during a dive at Cirkewwa Marine Park.
From information gained on site, just before 11am the diver who was in the company of a small group surfaced mid-way to the wreck of the P29 Patrol Boat. The group called for help and were helped to shore under the lantern access.
Diving instructors and Red cross personnel initiated immediate assistance and CPR until first the emergency doctors and later ambulance crews arrived on scene.
The diver was conveyed to Mater Dei Hospital, as were others in the group though it is understood that the others were taken only for observation.
At about 3pm, local media announced that the 66 year old diver had unfortunately passed away.
