The Malta Police Force announced in a press release that it was informed at about noon today that a diver needed assistance at Ċirkewwa.
Emergency services went on site and assisted the diver who had been brought to shore and was being given assistance by persons accompanying him. The emergency services provided assistance and took the diver to Mater Dei Hospital, where unfortunately he was certified to have died. The diver was later identified as a 50-year old Israeli national.
An inquiry is being held by the duty magistrate who has appointed experts to assist and further investigations are being carried out by the police.
This is the third fatality reported this year, with another two fatalities reported in June. Due to confidentiality obligations surrounding Police and Court inquiries, the causes and additional information about these accidents are not published in the public domain.

Update 21:42 – The Cirkewwa Park later in the day shared a post stating that:
We are saddened by the tragic news about the passing of a man, 50, who was diving in the Cirkewwa Marine Park earlier today. Fellow divers on site worked together with first-aiders to aid the man in any way possible, with the AED on site being the first piece of equipment used to help resuscitate. Medical treatment was then left in the hands of the medics who arrived at the site shortly after. Unfortunately, this was not enough to save him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and acquaintances who could be affected by his passing, while we would also like to encourage people suffering from shock or mental anxiety brought on by the incident, to make use of services such as the Olli chat, run by the Richmond Foundation.
