Update on Wied iz-Zurrieq project: Malta Tourism Authority has no objections!

Despite over 300 objections were filed by divers and other parties on the proposed upgrade at Wied iZ-Zurrieq which will result in less parking spots for divers, the Malta Tourism Authority has filed in a note in the application process stating that it does not have any objections to the proposal!

No objection letter filed in PA/05472/24 case file

Questions were sent on 14 November to the Malta Tourism Authority as to whether it can explain further its reasoning in view that it is known that it is aware of the objections sent by divers (local and foreign) as well as those by industry representatives soon after the proposal came to light. No response has yet been received. Divinginfo.mt will update on any feedback, if received.

So far, despite all the objections, no updates have been made to the plans with the Planning Authority, which remain as indicated in our previous articles.

Proposed diving kitting up area/parking showing 6 parking spaces from the current 12

Whilst we presented the suggestion of the whole-area refurbishment (including the development of underground parkings), diving industry representatives whilst agreeing with the same idea have also proposed as an alternative a safe unloading zone to be created. They however still expressed the concern that parking in the nearby areas is still challenging during a good part of the year even if one had to unload at the current kitting up area.
