MALTA DIVERS- we need your help!
There isn’t much data on seahorse populations in the waters of the Maltese archipelago and we need your help to start to collate and monitor seahorse populations in these beautiful waters. We’d like to get a better idea of the seahorse population in Malta, Gozo and Comino.
How can you help?
SNAP IT
If you see a seahorse and can safely photograph it, then please do and please send us the photograph on messenger. We will not use this image for anything other than scientific research unless you say it’s OK. Take a shot of your dive computer and a couple of shots of the terrain if you can, this information is really useful. Please do not use artificial light, flashes or strobes.
E-mail maltaseahorseproject@gmail or contact us on messenger
Google Form for reports (even without pictures)
SHARE IT
Please share the location of the seahorse with us, we’re working under licence from ERA so we’re legally obliged not to share this information outside of our project. We promise to keep this information confidential and encourage you to do the same.
STAY SEAHORSE SAFE
Look out for our posts on how to encounter a seahorse responsibly. Seahorses are sensitive to stress, light and touch.
STAY LEGAL
It’s not legal to dive with the intention of looking for seahorses without a licence. If you are an experienced diver and are interested in joining our volunteer divers group working under licence, then please get in touch for more information.
