On September 11, 2022, divinginfo.mt reported to relevant authorities that:
1. The No Parking except for divers sign at the tip of St. Elmo divesite has been broken in half and needs replacing.
2. The dive site sign near the entrance to the pool, which showed the map of the divesite is missing, with the stand being in place. By coincidence, Peter Lemon was there and was asking me where it had gone. Guess either vandals or the weather took it away.
3. The ladder in the pool is unsuitable for the site. It is too narrow, too short so that it is hard to reach the first step to get up and all the steps are angled wrong.that added with the seagrass growth makes it a huge slip hazard. Not nice if a diver ends up with a broken jaw or equipment due to it.
Updates
- Update November 2022: at end November we were informed the signs were being replaced.
- Update January 2023: in January was informed that a new ladder is going to be installed soon.
- Update April 2023: in April, no ladders were in place, a report was sent to authorities and a ladder had to be installed in the days following the report due to weather conditions at the time. Sign was still not in place and parking sign was broken.
- update: 1 July 2023: A new diving ladder has been installed, next to the ladder placed for swimmers. Read about it here: https://www.divinginfo.mt/new-ladders-railing-at-st-elmo-point/. We will visit shortly to confirm about the other matters.
