Update at noon on 4 October 2023 – Issue has been resolved, with MTA staff having brushed away the algal growth.
What divers had reported:
Steps at the Ċirkewwa Marine Park (especially “Susie’s Pool” – the entry in the middle of the diving site down from he sloped pathway) have over the past months increasingly become covered with algal growth which has made the first steps as one exits the site extremely slippery
“…divers on Sunday noticed a diver wearing a twinset slipping badly on returning from a dive and he was lucky not to have been seriously injured.
Can some maintenance work be carried out to clear the algal growth and for the future, find a way to reduce the danger in this area? Suggestions include minor adjustments to the steps’ levels when accessing into the sea. In fact, the central entrance is too high for the standard diver, but the pool too shallow for jumping in.”
