This is what the Italians love to call ‘la patata di mare’ (translated as ‘the sea potato), although this is not a vegetal but an evolved animal (even though its looks suggest otherwise)….this is a sea squirt or tunicate known as the sea peach (Halocynthia papillosa) which filters miniscule food particles out of the water…photo courtesy of colleague Alessio Marrone
