Corrected & updated: Safe distance and speed from divers’ flag signals NTM refreshed

On 3 July 2024, Transport Malta has replaced the former Notice 062 of 2024 – Safe distance and speed from diver flags signals with Notice 069 of 2024 – Safe Distance and speed from Diver Flag signals.

In a nutshell, the notice states that:

  • Mariners should keep a safe distance and speed when a vessel has a divers in the water flag (Blue/White Alpha flag)
  • Vessels of any size, need to have a minimum 1metre high rigid flag when they have divers in the water
  • Same safe distance rules also apply if the Red flag with white line is used, or if Delayed Surface Marker Buoys of Yellow, Red or Orange colours are used, with a recommended 100m clear safe distance.

(correction: a previous version of this post stated that speed limits were removed – apologies)
