The Professional Diving Schools Association (PDSA) today advised its members (and with the general diving public) that it has just carried out a tour of Malta Shore diving sites to assess damages and needs arising following Storm Harry’s destructive waves.
Storm Harry ravaged some of the most popular shore diving sites infrastructure, such as ladders and railings, but also wiped away concrete paths and other infrastructure. The most notable being Għar Lapsi, which has since been closed off to the general public wilst all other sites remain fairly accessible.
The full list of diving sites where infrastructure has been identified to need repairs include also Zonqor Point at Marsaskala, HMS Maori entry points, and Exiles beach in Sliema. Other lesser used sites will also be checked in the coming days.
Details of repairs to be carried out have been shared with PDSA Members which include most of the reputable diving schools in Malta & Gozo. PDSA reminded MTA licensed dive centres who are not members yet to contact them and join the association in order to receive all the info regarding new regulations, new projects and other information to keep servicing the diving industry in Malta with high reputation, in a professional and safe manner.
Repairs will be carried out by Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) contractors (who also participated in the visits together with MTA officials) in the coming days and weeks.
Għar Lapsi Consultation
In view of Għar Lapsi‘s bathing and various other infrastructure and rocky shores having had an absolute bashing during Storm Harry, the site may need to undergo a major revamp. The Government has since announced a Public consultation to gather feedback on how Għar Lapsi should be restored. We suggest divers participate in their throves, especially by reminding authorities of the improtance to retain diver access to this much loved site.

You can report issues or infrastructure improvement suggestions at other diving sites via our diving site reporting system, which we will pass on to MTA/PDSA (if related to Malta diving sites), or the Ministry for Gozo and the Gozitan PDSA Representative if in Gozo/Comino.
