A new fish species has been recorded in Malta for the first time. The Marbled Goby Pomatoschistus marmoratus (Risso, 1810) is a species of fish that lives on sand bottoms, from very shallow inshore water down to about 20m. It has been recorded along the coasts of most of the Mediterranean.
In 2022, and based on field and laboratory research carried out by Mark-Anthony Falzon and Marcelo Kovačić respectively, the species was confirmed in Malta. The results and record have just been published in Acta Adriatica 63 (2), 225-230, 2022.
Professor Mark-Anthony Falzon is an anthropologist and a member of the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts. Dr Marcelo Kovačić is a leading specialist on gobiid fish based at the Natural History Museum Rijeka, Croatia.
