Malta, Gozo and Comino were this year the recipients of the award for diving destination of the year at Boot Dusseldorf, one of the main Central Europe Diving and other water recreational activities shows in Europe with world-wide attendance.
In an announcement on Boot’s website (here), and social media (see below), the Maltese Archipelago was lauded for its climate, distance to diving sites and excellent visibility amongst other reasons that make it a diver’s choice for holidays.

The same page also indicates another two applicants for this award in Denmark and Indonesia which made it a point to indicate their conservation efforts in their submissions.
Whilst Malta presented the Cirkewwa Marine Park in this conservational aspect, it seems to have won on the basis of the other offerings that the islands provide, like the Underwater Virtual Museum which highlights the historic wrecks Malta has to offer, well-developed diving industry and support facilities like two Hyperbaric Chambers, blue flag beaches and proximity to central Europe.
Well done Malta! We can improve even more to keep our spot up there!
