Heaps of huge jellyfish were spotted in Comino and all around Malta yesterday, meaning the annual mass spawning arrived much earlier than expected.
”Seems that the annual mauve stinger (Pelagia noctiluca) mass spawning (release of eggs) is in full swing already this year, courtesy of the calm weather we have had over the past few weeks,” Marine Biologist Alan Deidun said.
What was described as a ”jellyfish soup” by the Marine Biologist was spotted at Santa Marija Bay in Comino.
However, it wasn’t just Comino that had mass jellyfish spotting, with everywhere from Ċirkewwa to Marsaskala also recording the same phenomenon.
