The local newsportal Newsbook reported today that five people were rescued after getting into difficulty at Wied iż-Żurrieq, site of the famour shore-accessible wreck the Um-el-Faroud.
According to this portal and another report seen in local media (no official statement was noted by the Malta Police Force), the divers needed rescue after an initial issue and potential failed attempt at assisting resulted in several divers (portals differ on exact number, we’re using the smaller number) needing help to return the shore.
At that point in time, whilst a swell was noticeable, several dive centres and independent divers were visible on site and the Blue Grotto boat operators were noted to be operating.
News reports stated that although an ambulance went on site to assist, the divers did not need hospitalisation.
