Five divers rescued off Qbajjar, Gozo

The Civil Protection Department issued a press release stating that five divers were rescued off Qbajjar, Gozo after they found themselves in difficulty.

The area in question is popular for dives at the Double Arch and other attractions but is known to suffer occasionally from strong currents. It is a site where although the entry point is very much protected from the wind and waves, and easy to enter/exit the water, once one leaves the safety of the bay one has limited options for alternative safe exits if carried away by currrents or if there are errors in navigation.

Thanks to the Civil Protection Department and the Armed Forces of Malta for carrying out the rescue.

Earlier this afternoon, the Civil Protection Department was alerted that five divers were unable to safely return to shore following a dive off Qbajjar, Gozo.
A coordinated rescue operation involving the Civil Protection Malta and Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) was immediately launched. Rescue teams from Fire Stations 6 and 7 were dispatched to the scene, where all five divers were successfully located and brought safely back to land.
The Civil Protection Department extends its appreciation to all responding entities for their swift coordination, professionalism, and assistance throughout the operation.
