Information from Malta Online Bookshop and University of Malta
Fishes and Other Marine Animals of the Maltese Islands has just been published by BDL. The book illustrates and discusses a selection of the species of fishes and marine invertebrates that are likely to be encountered by nearshore snorkelers and beachcombers. It is written in non-technical language and will be of use to both advanced enthusiasts and beginners.
The Introduction outlines the history of marine science in Malta and discusses some aspects of marine habitats and ecosystems. The different species are discussed in the main section, in individual entries that provide information on identification, habitat and behaviour.
The book, which is 240-pages-long and richly illustrated with photographs taken in the field, is co-authored by University of Malta professors Mark-Anthony Falzon (Faculty of Arts) and Patrick J Schembri (Department of Biology). Most of the photographs are by Prof. Mark-Anthony Falzon.
