Marine Biology Course

About the Course
The mode of delivery is accessible to anyone with an interest in the coastal and marine environment of the Mediterranean, irrespective of academic background. All participants will be given a certificate of attendance, in addition to complementary copies of publications from the Spot the Jellyfish and the Spot the Alien citizen science campaigns.

List of topics that will be covered within the foreseen 8 hrs of lectures (spread over the first 2 days, with the third and final morning being dedicated to the guided snorkeling session):

Introduction to the dynamics of the Mediterranean;
Snapshots of major coastal and marine habitats and species of the Maltese Islands
Overview of plankton species (including jellyfish);
Human impacts (e.g. invasive alien species) and conservation strategies;
Instrumentation and methods used in the study of marine biology;
Management of Marine Protected Areas (MPA’s);
Marine habitat restoration
Introduction to citizen science
