On the 22 August the Times of Malta reported an eye-watering €143 Million were provided by Government for supporting films and TV Series being fully of partly shot in Malta.
We understand that all industries need their funding, and comparisons are odious, however from an FOI request that we made last year, excluding marketing and former covid assitance, in the 2020-2021 period, the MTA spent just a little above half a million euros.
This for an industry which brings (as per 2019 estimate) circa 130,000 divers to our shores, and where the same infrastructure is used by the hundreds of local divers too.
No wonder progress in improving diving sites is slow…
