The 2022 document was heralded as a way forward for the dive industry on the Islands, with hopefully, lots of action taken. It was, in effect, a reprint of a document ‘The Master Plan’ many years ago and during those many years virtually nothing has been done to improve the offering that Gozo has to offer.
This year, and virtually without exception, there has been a huge downturn of visiting divers to the Island and even amongst those that did come, they expressed surprise that nothing had really been done to improve facilities over the years.
Gozo has some of the finest diving in the world– maybe not in terms of the huge numbers of fish but in terms of the actual accessibility and variety of dives and dive sites and indeed at some dive sites, a great array of fish types.
The industry needs to see a huge step forward in terms of action and certainly not a huge 8 legged headless horse bronze statue on pristine coastal land. The huge amount of money spent on this statue could better be spent on diving facilities at dive sites.
Proper toilet facilities at Dwerja (Blue Hole and Inland Sea) for example.
Talk to divers and ask them! They will know – they will tell you.
