Unattended cars at diving sites after normal hours may mean the diver or swimmer is in distress and needs help! We’ve come up with this little gadget to help you. How to use the below tool:
- Once you get hold or print this tool, fill in two emergency numbers (family or friends). Don’t use mobile numbers of mobiles that might be in the car! They will be useless if someone calls them.
- If you use diving sites with reserved parking for divers, attach the qualification card with double sided tape or a rolled piece of sticky tape, or cut two slits as marked in the card to hold your card. No fines please Mr. Warden!
- Keep the emergency contacts informed of where you will be diving / swimming, and what time you intend to be back. Quick message before heading out is also good practice. E.g. “HI I am [diving/swimming] at X. Will catch up with you at [HH]
- Keep this in your car (glovebox or under the sun visor when not in use).
- Once you arrive at the swimming / diving site, set the parking clock to a bit later than you intend to return back to the car (just in case you’ve spotted something nice and you hang around longer in the water).
- Place card next to it behind the windscreen. If you dive very often, put it in a transparent plastic pouch and attach with elastic bands to the passenger’s sunvisor, so you just flip down the visor and set the clock.
- Enjoy your swim / dive – keep safe!
