Reminder: Dive for Puttinu on Good Friday

From the Facebook Event at: https://fb.me/e/14XuPs2uc

Call to all Scuba and Freediving Clubs, Dive Centres, Suppliers of Services and other interested parties

Divers do great things together. You can join in to do your part too for a great cause!

We’ve been approached by Puttinu Cares (a charity helping children undergoing Cancer Treatment and their families) to help with their fundraising event on Good Friday the 7th of April 2023.
Weather permitting, we’re thinking of turning the Cirkewwa Diving Site into a Diver Fest (ok – slightly more organized than usual)!

Divers are asked to join in at Cirkewwa for a dive, heralding spring diving and hopefully glorious weather and at the same time contribute to Puttinu’s amazing work – read more about it on https://puttinucares.org/

If you’re open to help Puttinu, how can you get involved? A few ideas:

– Individual Divers: Join in and give in your donation (Guide donation of €5)
– Scuba/FreeDiving Clubs: Encourage your members to attend (from morning to early afternoon). Amphibians, ATLAM and Calypso are already on board!
– Diving Centres: Let your clients know there’s an event, but also, maybe you could consider contributing with some diving fills tokens for participants if donating €10. PDSA is supporting the event too!
– Diving Retailers / Servicing Providers: Contribute something small for donation of €10 or more (e.g. brand freebies / discount vouchers). If you want to come on site, you can set up a small stall / table with your latest equipment/gadgets in non-diver parking areas on a first come first served basis without obstructing parking / kitting up spaces.
– Other NGOs / Interested organisations: Give the site some more life for after the dive! Do you have an interesting project that you want to show off? Are you seeking for diver collaboration in citizen science efforts? Come over and share your message by setting up a small table / stall on a first come first served basis without obstructing parking / kitting up spaces.
Onsite, the usual diving facilities will be open (bathrooms and Jason’s kiosk where your change can further help the cause and your after dive coffee / snack will therefore help the cause as well!)

The Cirkewwa Marine Park Management and the Malta Tourism Authority are assisting the event by providing a standby first aid unit.

We have asked TM to assist by having the ferry side wall cleared just for the day for divers to be able to park in view of more divers being expected than normal. Another request to TM was made to assist in keeping the road clear to arrive at the dive site (due to usual long weekend issues) and have an enforcement dinghy closeby.

We will contact media to come have a look and tell everybody how nice divers are and who knows, your club dive centre may have a few more members / students in the coming summer.
With the help of all of you, we can also blitz the Social media to encourage divers to join in and let people know how great the diving community is!

Get in touch if interested to contribute further, and register your interest!

Note: Diving activities are to be carried out on a personal basis, and the organisers / participants assume no liability – dive safe! We’re just encouraging donations to Puttinu Cares!
