The HPF Ranger Unit has announced that the slope towards the Anchor Bay entry has been closed off after the storms of the recent days dislodged further the already very precarious sides.
Over many years, many users of the zone have repeatedly asked for safety netting to be put on site to prevent injuries from the unstable terrain (mostly loose rubble) that is found on the way to the also very badly broken up quay.
The quay itself, had originally been built for filming of the movie Popeye back in the early 80s, and since it had mainly been intended just for filming purposes, its foundations were not strong and has over time continued to break up.
The dangers highlighted by the Rangers are not a new issue, with reports having been made over many years and months that tragedies may occur here in the future unless the area, which is very popular with picnickers, swimmers, tourists, freedivers, divers and fishermen, is given some further due attention.
Photo below is from a freak storm in August of a few years ago. Many other diving centres and individuals also experienced falling rocks in even clear weather, especially when unaware tourists unsettle rocks at the top which come hurtling down the sides.
