LovinMalta reported on Sunday that:
The Federation of Maltese Aquaculture Producers has launched a new initiative aimed at preserving Malta’s coastal waters.
The campaign, dubbed ‘Clean Up Our Sea’, invites members of the public to report any issues or abnormalities via dedicated hotlines. Flotsam can be reported on: 79890084 in the north and 79890085 in the south.
Clean-up patrols will operate until the end of September.
The campaign, spearheaded by Aquaculture Resources Limited, has garnered support from several prominent companies in the industry, including MFF, AJD, Fish and Fish, and Mareblu.
The collaborators hope that other industries exploiting the marine environment will also join in this effort to preserve Malta’s waters.
Malta holds a notable position in the aquaculture industry as one of the largest producers of bluefin tuna in the Mediterranean and Atlantic regions. In fact, the island leads the European Union in this regard.
As such, the industry recognises its role and responsibility in maintaining an environment that fosters not just the growth of marine life, but its preservation as well.
